Settle in for sea views from several corners of the site at Tyddyn Goronwy Camping Park in Gwynedd, in the seaside village of Tal-y-Bont and a couple of miles from the beaut beach at Barmouth. Pods and pitches here are flanked by sea and mountain views, and are within easy walking distance of the village, which has a takeaway and a riverside pub. Even closer is Talybont station, a couple of minutes' walk away and handy for outings to Barmouth beach or north to the peaks of Snowdonia. Showers, toilets and a washing-up area are available on site. The pitch price at Tyddyn Goronwy also includes a free leisure pass to its sister park Sunnysands Caravan Park, a short drive away, to use its heated indoor pool, café, fish and chip shop and other facilities – and you might want to stick around for the spectacular beachfront sunsets too.

Liked: Great location. Small site felt quite peaceful. Toilets and showers good, washing up facility OK. Great warden who was very helpful and pointed out great food and other locations walking distance from the site. Grass was cut short with no cuttings left behind.

Powered grass tent site

Liked: The campsite was lovely and peaceful, other campers were very friendly and respectful. Toilet/shower facilities were basic but all you needed; toilets were clean with toilet roll provided (the odd unplugged toilet but nothing the campsite can control) showers were warm, though you do have to press the button every 10 seconds or so but was a free shower so can't complain! Hairdryers activated by 20p coin that gets returned to you. Washing up station again basic but all you needed/was clean and easily accessible. Pitches were nicely spaced and most were protected by wall/trees with a nice view of the sea. Site was clean and tidy, and easy to find. 5 minute walk to the beach/arcades/bar/take away/supermarket and able to use facilities at holiday park across the road. Able to do a late check out for additional charge.

Disliked: No park on site for children but there was plenty of space for them to run around/only a short walk to the beach. Did have a louder group of younger lads turn up who were quiet noisy at night but not the campsites fault. Seagulls are over confident and were trying to break into people's tents, but again you camp at your own risk! Train track did run right past the campsite so could be noisy at times, but that's something you're fully Aware of if you do your research on the area.

Local attractions

To Barmouth first, of course: its position on the north Wales coast surrounded by Snowdonia National Park makes it a popular and pretty place to visit – and the huge beach is pretty special to see as well. Away from the coast (eventually), a wide range of activities is available around Tyddyn Goronwy Camping Park, from cycling to hiking to pony trekking – or strap on lots of energy and tackle the Snowdon and Cadair Idris mountain ranges a short distance away. A chuffing good way to see the spectacular scenery of north Wales is on one of its small steam trains: the nearest to Tyddyn Goronwy are the Fairbourne Steam Railway just outside Barmouth and the Ffestiniog Railway about 10 miles away.
