At less than five minutes’ drive from sleepy Ladignac-le-Long, it’s far away from mass tourism… As a matter of fact, it’s the sort of place where you can take your time, recharge your batteries and make the most of the rural setting. This leafy site offers all sorts of handy family activities – from a playground and pétanque court, to a games room where you can borrow chess and board games to keep inquisitive minds active. Sporty types can play tennis at the municipal courts or get out hiking directly from the site – there’s a trail that leads right around the 10-hectare Ruisseau Noir lake – while anglers cast a few lines in the water. If you manage to galvanise everyone into action, Camping Bel Air also gives you access to the Périgord-Limousin Natural Regional Park (10 minutes’ drive), where you can hike and cycle to your heart’s content among chestnut groves and alongside rivers and ponds inhabited by herons and mallards.

Llocs d'interès

Espace Hermeline (10 minutes’ drive) is an adventure park with ziplines and tree climbing, plus more sedate activities like orienteering and miniature golf. At Base de Loisirs de Rouffiac (half an hour), on the shore of Lac de Rouffiac, it’s possible to hire paddleboards and canoes (pedal boats, too) and have a go at wakeboarding. Residents at Park Zoo du Reynou (half an hour) hail from six different continents, so whether you’re into big cats or creatures who thrive in the polar cold, you should find something to hold your interest. If little feet (or big ones, for that matter) start to feel sore, take a ride on the safari train, which travels through the herbivore, carnivore and primate areas (take your pick). When it’s time for a little culture, head to the Haute-Vienne Contemporary Art Museum (40 minutes), housed in the splendid Rochechouart Castle. In addition to a permanent collection, the gallery hosts interesting temporary exhibitions.
