If you're eager for a hol with a traditional village setting – in spectacularly scenic surrounds but only an hour and a bit from Amsterdam – this Dutch destination is the one.
And there's a pirate ship too. Aaar yes: a sizely wooden structure for small swashbucklers to clamber over, play around and (probably) capture daily. There's also a trampoline on site, just in case the kids need to bounce off any extra energy after their arresting exploits, and loads of room to play in the site fields, tennis courts and around the grounds: best to bring along a football or two, outdoor games, and possibly a nature spotting or bug hunting kit...
And that village setting? Take a look at the pics: fab family site Vakantiepark Eigen Wijze is set up like an old Zuiderzee village, with a peaceful vibe, a green locale and accommodation right by the water or secluded among trees. There's loads to do nearby, as this countryside setting is right next to the Kuinderbos forest for walks and bike rides, and about 20 minutes from more of the same in the De Weerribben-Wieden National Park. (If you yearn to see actual Zuiderzee villages in their former state, Lemmer, Blokzijl and Urk are all within easy reach.)
Vakantiepark Eigen Wijze is five kilometres from the Noordoostpolder village of Bant, in the Netherlands province of Flevoland, and within an hour and 10 minutes of Amsterdam, Utrecht, Groningen and Apeldoorn.

Atrações locais
Set off into the forest first: Kuinderbos is a mere minute from your village base and as the biggest forest in the Noordoostpolder region has loads of space for hiking, cycling and mountain biking. It's a prime spot for wildlife watching too: keep your eyes peeled for birds of prey and pine martens as well as wild Welsh ponies and Icelandic horses.
More trekking and nature trailing is 20 minutes or so to the south east at De Weerribben-Wieden National Park, the biggest bog area in north-west Europe. Drop into a park visitor centre at Ossenzijl, 15 minutes' drive away, for info on the lot, or keep up the old village vibe with an amble around Giethoorn (30 minutes), a traditional park town only accessible by boat.
For family days, the Slagharen amusement park is just over an hour away, and Wildlands adventure zoo within an hour and 10 minutes.
