Small and well-kept, The Old Mill is in the grounds of a small six-room B&B on the edge of High Leven, around five minutes’ drive from the little market town of Yarm. Surrounded by well-kept gardens, the touring pitches have a pretty backdrop. Facilities on site include free wifi and a toilet block; although there’s no dedicated shower area by the pitches, guests can use the indoor shower room for a time in the mornings for an extra charge (so, it may be suitable for shorter or one-night stays). For evening meals, the highly recommended local pub is a two-minute walk down the lane (it's best to book ahead as it's a popular spot). Yarm High street is five minutes' drive away with several popular pubs and eateries (and taxis available locally if you'd like a drink or two). There's also a playground close by and an electric vehicle charging point. Days out around here might involve a wander around Yarm (for the castle and some tasty independent shops), a trip to the seaside at Saltburn-by-the-Sea or Whitby, a boat trip on the River Tees, a round of golf, or taking an alpaca for a walk from a nearby farm (now that’s not something you get to do every day…)

Ik was blij met: Great spot this. One night stopover after a day in Middlesbrough, lovely and quiet, plenty of space, pub down the path bustling, great comms. Wifi non existent but getting away from it all is why we do it right?

Ik was niet zo blij met: Found the The Old Mill on Pitchup, We had a VW camper so only a portapotty, and no shower and not a lot of room for washing, so needed a toilet available 24hrs with a sink for washing, there is a toilet there and a small basin, there is nowhere to empty the toilet apart from down the 24hr toilet,
It says it takes motorhomes/camper vans but not really set for them,

Ik was blij met: lovely grounds and not your bog standard bed and breakfast property with a nice friendy greeting upon arrival. Outdoor space with leafy surroundings has some tables and chairs placed in various spots to sit around which is a nice touch especially in decent weather, tucked well away from the main road and has a hedge lined walking/cycle path straight outside the proprty so those with dogs (like us) have no worry about getting them out to stretch their legs. There is a dog waste disposal bin just a few yards down from the entrance

Ik was niet zo blij met: Unfortnunatly access with a coachbuilt Moho is tight, it's not necessarilly so within the property - there were other cars near the Moho bay we had, some presumably belonging to guests but im sure they could be shuffled to get the space needed to manouver if wanted, it was preferable for me to reverse into our bay when we arrived and did it ok with the help of the mirrors and the reversing cam, plus another eye at the back from the other half but once in its a lovely spot. The bigger issue is the access road through a little enclave of cottages. its ony a few meters long but it is lined with trees either side and they are currently overhanging quite low, anything bigger than a transit sized van converstion or a T5 might screech and scrape catching leaves and twiglets as they go (we did and we are 3m x 2.3m wide). My guess is that it is something the site owners don't have control over because its not on their land but it would be nice of they could do something about it.

Lokale bezienswaardigheden

Alpaca Alpaca (10 minutes’ walk) is the name of the farm where you can get trekking with an alpaca as your companion. Once you’re all warmed up, bigger hikes can be tracked down in the North York Moors National Park (20 minutes’ drive) or you could prep your legs for the 199 Steps in Whitby (45 minutes). This coastal spot has lots in the way of holiday activities, from a seaside fix at the beach to the abbey, brewery and Captain Cook Museum in the town. Meanwhile, a day out in Saltburn-by-the-Sea (20 minutes) could look like ice cream by the beach, a trip up the cliff tramway for some splendid views or taking in the fresh sea air on the pier. When you want to stick somewhere close by to the site, a small wander around Yarm Castle and high street (five minutes) is one option. Others are Middlesbrough Golf Club (10 minutes) or the Victorian street and museum at Preston Park Museum (10 minutes) Set off for some scenic ruins instead if you wish, as some of the Augustinian Gisborough Priory (25 minutes) still stands and guests can imagine what it looked like in its heyday.
