Whether you're from France or Blighty or anywhere on the globe, few things beat a big breakfast. And few big breakfasts are beat by the British fry-up, a fab concoction of bangers, rashers and (lots) more that'll set you up for the morning and then some.
Fancy this in France? Then you need to bag your stay at Camping Devezeau, a laidback and English-run site set up as a peaceful holiday retreat in the Charente countryside. Full Englishes are available at the licensed bar in mid and peak season – but you'd better book, as they're pretty popular...
Away from your big breakfast, Camping Devezeau is a pretty little place, close to walks and cycle rides along quiet lanes and tracks. It's handily set with good access via the N10, just north of the vibrant city of Angoulême; Cognac is about an hour away.
Linger in the café courtyard if you'd prefer just to sit and digest your bangers, or go for a leisurely stroll into Saint-Angeau just over a kilometre away. A pool and sun loungers are on site for dips and basks, and there's a hut with board games and books to aid further peaceful hours. And if/once you feel like stirring again? Lob a gentle ball around at the outdoor ping pong table.

When traveling from the south to Angoulême on the N10, take the D18 to Mansle / Fontclaireau, enter Mansle and turn left at the traffic lights, direction St. Claud / La Rochefoucauld. Cross the other side of the N10 and take the second right on the D6 direction Puyreaux / Chasseneuil / La Rochefoucauld. After traveling for eight kilometers, turn right at T junction where you will see the tourist sign for the site then turn left, the site is on the right side.
From the south, take the A10 towards Poitiers and exit for the D113 towards Tourriers / Villejoubert / St. Lover-of-Boixe and St. Angeau. At the top of the motorway slip road, follow the D915 to St. Angeau for about 13 km until you reach the junction with the D15, then turn right towards St. Angeau. Stay on this road for about eight kilometers and on the right when you see the tourist sign for the site turn right.

On your bike: cycling routes around the area include many circular ones from six to 50 kilometres long, so even those who get puffed fairly soon should find something doable. Also actively, set off out on local hiking trails, go fishing at or canoeing on the Charente and Tardoire rivers, or trot off into the countryside on a horse riding adventure.
Not enough adventure? Soar high high up over the Charente on a microlight flight at Saint-Ciers-Sur-Bonnieure, five minutes' drive away. Too much adventure? Potter around the local market at Saint-Angeau as well as those of Mansle (15 minutes' drive), La Rochefoucauld (20 minutes) and Rouillac (35 minutes).
Angoulême (30 minutes) has the famed Circuit Des Remparts – just the engine-y ticket to stir the hearts of classic car connoisseurs.
