Got the kids with you? Ze Camping at Camping Campilo makes a smashing base for family holidays in the Vendée, being 45 minutes’ drive from the famed shows at Puy du Fou, half an hour from sandy Atlantic beaches and only 15 minutes from the waterways of the Parc Naturel Régional du Marais Poitevin. And that’s even before you contemplate what’s on offer at the leafy 16 hectare site itself: namely modern accommodation in spacious cabins surrounded by leafy plots, walks in a pine forest, a fishing pond and an artificial lagoon laid out with the finest of sand. Oh, and a waterpark with two gigantic slides for the kids (and adult kids) plus a heated covered pool, an adventure playground, a multisports field and ping-pong tables to keep everyone active… as well as organised activities for younger children and a couple of teens' events each week (both high season only) so mum and dad can relax. With a restaurant and takeaway on site, mum and dad can also relax knowing that all catering needs are covered; if you decide cook for yourselves there’s a well-stocked shop as well, plus grocers and butchers in Aubigny-les-Clouzeaux (five minutes’ drive).

Local attractions

If you’re an active family looking for lots of sporty things to do, you’re definitely in the right place. There’s a riding school 25 minutes’ drive away, while a skatepark, bowling alley and 18-hole golf course are all within 45 minutes. If watersports are more your thing, you can organise sailing, kitesurfing, kayaking and paddleboarding off the sandy Atlantic beaches around Les Sables-d’Olonne (half an hour). The marshy Parc Naturel Régional du Marais Poitevin (15 minutes) is a hub for riverside walks, rowing traditional wooden craft down waterways lined by trees and cycling the Vélo Francette bike trail from Niort (an hour by car) to the coast. Also very much worth a day trip is Puy du Fou (45 minutes), the theme park that stages fantastical historical pageants with a cast of hundreds – and almost as many animals – as well as the delightful seaside resort of La Rochelle (an hour), a once-fortified city known for its three landmark medieval towers and seafood restaurants sprawled around its charismatic old port.

All guests spending the night at the park must present their ID at the reception desk and sign registration forms.

Bookings are nominative and non-transferable.

Changes to your holiday

Bookings cannot be amended within 35 day(s) of arrival.
