  • Peaceful CAMC-members touring site at Bolton-by-Bowland in Lancashire
  • Gisburn Forest and the Forest of Bowland both 20 minutes’ drive
  • Well-kept pitches with Easington Fell views; pubs 10 minutes’ drive
Longing for spectacular views of the fells from your peaceful pitch? Set your compass for Acre Hill Farm Certificated Location at Bolton-by-Bowland in Lancashire’s Ribble Valley – this scenic and peaceful site for Caravan and Motorhome Club members only has far-reaching rural vistas on a working farm, where you’ll be surrounded by Highland cattle, hens, ducks, cats and the occasional tractor. The site offers level gravel hardstanding pitches and plenty of neatly mown grass to enjoy when relaxing or larking around with the family. If you’re looking for breakfast supplies, the farm owners can sell you their own wonderfully fresh free-range hen and duck eggs, and for anything else, Clitheroe (20 minutes’ drive) and Skipton (half an hour) have shops for stocking up on provisions. There are a couple of foodie pubs within 10 minutes’ drive if you fancy a break from cooking. The campsite is well placed for walks and mountain biking in Gisburn Forest (20 minutes) and on Easington Fell (15 minutes), so any accompanying dogs will get plenty of exercise (keep your canine chums on a lead around the pitches please). You can also go fly fishing at Stocks Reservoir (15 minutes) or be on the golf course at Clitheroe in 20 minutes.

Local attractions

If you’re keen to explore this corner of Lancashire on foot, clamber up Pendle Hill (20 minutes’ drive) to the Bronze Age burial site on its summit, follow The Tolkien Trail (half an hour) alongside the River Ribble or cover miles of open moorland on Easington Fell (15 minutes). There are also numerous cycling trails through Gisburn Forest and the Forest of Bowland National Landscape (both 20 minutes). Step back in time to learn about the textile heritage of the region at Bancroft Mill Engine Museum (25 minutes), and tour extravagant apartments stuffed with priceless antiques and colourful stained-glass windows at Victorian-era Cliffe Castle (45 minutes). Kids need a treat? They can ride ponies, cuddle llamas and meet red deer at Thornton Hall Country Park (25 minutes), while younger offspring will almost certainly love the soft-play centre and farm animals at Mrs Dowsons Farm Park (half an hour). When energy needs to be burnt off, ship the whole family off to Go Ape Blackburn (40 minutes) for a foray on treetop rope courses.
