From pint to pitch in a matter of just a few minutes… if that sounds like just the thing for your Cumbria break, book a spot at The Wilson Arms, where pitches are located just behind a fab family-run pub about five minutes’ drive from Coniston. This being the Lake District National Park, there are gorgeous views all around here – the pub sits in the shadow of the towering Old Man of Coniston and Dow Crag, and it’s close to the Duddon Valley, Furness Fells and other lovely parts of the Lakes (Ambleside, Grasmere and Wastwater are all within easy reach). Long-distance walkers may also like to note that it’s on the route of the Cumbria Way (a stopover with a pub attached… how handy…) Wherever you choose to roam by day, back at base you can spend the evening cosied up in the classic country pub, which serves top-notch meals, fine ales and takeaways. There’s also a lovely deli on site, so it’s easy to pick up various bits of local food for your picnic, home-baked cakes and light meals (including soups and jacket potatoes).

Liked: Great space, clean toilets and shower block (there is only one toilet though) and the pub was brilliant for dinner and breakfast.

Disliked: The bays need marking out for the motor homes / caravans. It was quite confusing in terms of the pitch size and space and other motorhomes had taken pitches reserved for other people. We were left to sort it out without much help from the pub

Liked: New shower block was lovely

Disliked: We had a specific reserved pitch but on arrival all pitches were occupied. I asked someone to show us to our pitch which a young girl did but someone was in our spot another camper said that everyone had occupied the wrong space and I would have to park next to a wall which was not ideal . Campers should be shown to their space on arrival as I understand from previous reviews this happens a lot.

Liked: If you are walking Old Man Coniston and don't want to go the main route this is a perfect location for a 10 mile loop.

Disliked: You are basically pitched in a roped off section of the car park behind the pub. The pitches are really close together with 4 horizontally and two are supposed to park vertically at the bottom. Problem is if new people arrive when you have nipped out in your van and they park the wrong way you can't really get back to your pitch. This happened to us when we nipped into Windermere for something to eat with friends. The pub told us nothing at check in apart from pitch number. This is probably why people are parking the wrong way as they have no instructions or info from the bar.

The pub goes use the benches right next to your van when it is nice to have their beer which is a bit close for comfort if you are in your van with the door open with a young child.

Liked: Great pub, gorgeous food & friendly staff.
Brand new shower / toilet installed. Lots of hot water & immaculate. Level , hard standing pitches with water point, aerial & EHU.
Beautiful scenery . Approx one hour walk into Coniston . Another walk to a nearby waterfall.
Our only niggle was the closeness of the motorhomes once in situ. Not only were they parked in a row , but also in front against a wall, but across the fronts of the in line vehicles. This happened all weekend , although the vehicles were changing. We all commented that getting out in an emergency would be impossible or very , very difficult as no 'swing' on the larger units.
Loved the pub , facilities but a little more room pls. The man with the small bike trailer moved across the front of everyone in order to start his journey early the next morning as he would not have got out otherwise !!

Disliked: See above. WiFi limited to pub area only!

Local attractions

Where will you go walking first? The Old Man of Coniston walking trail (10 minutes’ drive) for views of valleys and copper mines along the way? Tarn Hows (15 minutes) for a short hike around the lakeside? Windermere’s west shore (half an hour) to catch a boat over to the gothic jetty at the National Trust’s Wray Castle (25 minutes)? Or perhaps Wastwater (20 minutes) or Ambleside (25 minutes) for more of the lakes? Hiking the day away is easy from this site, but watersports are another way to keep active and Coniston (five minutes) has plenty on this front, from Canadian canoe or kayak hire to boat trips for those of you who want to get about the water a bit quicker. And for another place that will keep you moving, Grizedale Forest (25 minutes) has mountain biking trails, a sculpture park and Go Ape, so take your pick. Nature’s certainly a treat in these parts, but so is history. The National Trust’s Hill Top (25 minutes) is all about the stories of Beatrix Potter, as her old house lives on here. Elsewhere, Brantwood (15 minutes) is the home-turned-museum of another English writer, John Ruskin.

Changes to your holiday

Bookings cannot be amended within 3 day(s) of arrival.

Admission

Admission is only permitted after registering at reception.
At least one of the party members must be aged 25 or over.
Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Arrivals and departures

Late arrivals must notify the park as soon as possible. Your booking will be held for 24 hours. After this period the management reserves the right to relet your unit.
No refunds/discounts for inclement weather, late arrivals or early departures.
There is no reception at this park. Please check-in at the Wilson Arms instead.
Units will be allocated on arrival.

Dogs

Dogs are prohibited from main facilities and amenities.
Dogs must be kept on leashes and supervised at all times.

General

In the event of a complaint, please speak to reception immediately. Complaints which are not brought to the management's attention during your stay cannot be dealt with once you have left the site.
