  • Award-winning sociable park in a valley next to the River Wharfe
  • A 15-minute drive to Wetherby, 20 to Harrogate and 30 to Leeds
  • Dayroom with a reading lounge and snooker table; pub serving food
If your travels usually revolve around seeking out good food, you'll likely do well at award-winning Maustin Park in west Yorkshire’s Lower Wharfe Valley, home of the excellent on-site Stables Bar and Restaurant. For not only does it have a full menu of homemade food cooked from locally sourced ingredients, the owners reckon the desserts are legendary throughout the local area; it might be worth booking a stay on this basis alone… The bar is open from Wednesday through to Sunday, with food and takeaway services at selected times, alongside a great selection of local ales, wines and flavoured gins. (See notices for more details of opening times.) Tend to feel sleepy after strenuous stints of indulgence? Snooze everything off while surrounded by the park’s peaceful greenery or in the reading lounge; alternatively, you can get a game in on the bowling green, start up a snooker match in the dayroom or head for a wander beside the River Wharfe (minutes away on foot). Fishing can be had on the water and birds can be spotted in the trees during your walk: the park makes a great base for a twitching hol as species including rare red kites are often seen around the region. More of a browser than a birdwatcher? Maustin Park’s in the middle of the Yorkshire triangle of Harrogate, Leeds and York (20, 30 minutes and 45 minutes’ drive away respectively). Wetherby’s 15 minutes away and holds a town market every Thursday. Handy amenities on site include toilets, showers, a washing-up area and a laundry room plus waste disposal and water taps.

Camping pod

Liked: That it was adults only so it was nice and peaceful.

Disliked: The mattress was awful and we had a power cut.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: We are glad you enjoyed your stay at Maustin Park. The power cut was not only the park, it affected 466 homes in the area and was out of our control. We provide 2 mattresses in each camping pod, 1 x soft and 1 x firm so you have a choice of mattress.

FHU grass and gravel travel trailer campsite

Liked: This was one of the most enjoyable and relaxing stays in our tourer by miles. Access to site, distance from home, quality of surroundings and amenities was first class. We loved the site so much that we have booked two further stays at Maustin Park.

Disliked: Nothing at all!!

Camping pod

Liked: Just spent two nights at this lovely park. We were in one of the pods which were great. Bed, table, heater and even a tv!
Close to the amenities, two ladies toilets and a lovely shower, never busy all weekend, nice and hot, room warm.
We did a lovely circular walk from site by river watching Red Kites overhead. Harewood also walkable but we decided to chill in the sun instead.
Stables bar and restaurant- lovely meal, drinks and entertainment on Sat night.
A very welcoming site, will use again.

Disliked: Maybe have blackout blinds as very bright early morning x
Didn't bother me but partner would prefer a lie in x

FHU grass and gravel travel trailer campsite

Liked: Lovely country location but within distance to all major road and city links. Onsite we found it to be welcoming, staff helpfull and nothing was too small or big for helping out, all clean and tidy on and around the site. The bar and restaurant, again welcoming, good choice of food which was lovely and different menu from the burger, chicken type. Staff very knowledgeable of the area, roads and services to help on days travelling out. Although small touring site and on a static site would recommend for a great stay for exploring the local surrounding areas.

Disliked: Possibly could do with a little shop to supply milk, tea, bread etc something you may not have initially ti start your stay. Bit local shop 10 min drive.

FHU grass and gravel travel trailer campsite

Liked: We had a lovely greeting from the receptionist on site, this is a small site with only six pitches and was perfect.
The toilets and showers were spotlessly clean and warm.

Disliked: Only draw back was the WIFI or lack of - depending on your need a god send to get away from it or a pain if you needed it.

Local attractions

Once you’ve ticked off trips to the independent shops of Harrogate, the Jorvik Viking Centre in York and the Royal Armouries houses in Leeds, it’s easy to get deep into the countryside as it's about a 30-minute drive to the Yorkshire Dales National Park in one direction and 50 to the North York Moors National Park in another. To blend a bit of history into days out in scenic surrounds, well-preserved old manors with pristine gardens are all around, including Harewood House (10 minutes’ drive) and Ripley Castle (30 minutes). Soap opera fan? A visit to Harewood’s estate is also your chance to tour the studios and setting of Emmerdale (just make sure to book in advance). If you're in the company of nippers, they may instead prefer to be taken to the treetop trails, enchanted forest and adventure playgrounds at Stockeld Park (10 minutes).
