  • Small, friendly campsite on a family-run Gloucestershire farm
  • A 15-minute drive to Gloucester; 20 minutes to Cheltenham
  • Established site since 1946; easy access from the M5
There’s been a campsite at Gables Farm Touring and Camping since way back in 1946… and with a history like that, you can be sure the team here have learnt a thing or two along the way about what makes a good place to stay. The essence of this small, family-run Gloucestershire site is to keep things simple but well done. Bathroom facilities are bright, clean and spacious, with toilets and showers, and there’s also a washing-up area and chemical disposal point for guests to use. And because no good day ever started without a decent breakfast, you can also pick up fresh free-range eggs on site too. Of course, it helps that this is a rather fine location too: in the Severn Vale about 15 minutes’ drive from the centre of Gloucester, and close to the western edge of the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The site is just off the A38 and with easy access from the M5 (both northbound and southbound), so getting out and about should be straightforward. Eats and drinks should be in good supply around here, too – if you don’t fancy the trip to Gloucester there are pubs in Whitminster (two minutes’ drive) and Frampton on Severn (10 minutes), or you could venture to the lovely town of Stroud (15 minutes).

Liked: Fantastic pitch right next to the field of sheep and views of the hills beyond.
The site is well kept, clean and tidy. The toilet block was lovely.
We were greeted by Sam who was very helpful and cheery and we were shown to our pitch. There was even a coffee wagon on site.
Full signal which is also plus!
Can't fault our stay we are planning on coming back soon.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike!

Power optional grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: We took our 10-year-old granddaughter to Gables Farm for a last minute, one-night mini adventure. As we live nearby, this was a short but sweet getaway in our Defender with a roof tent for myself and granddaughter and a pop-up tent for my partner and our dog.

It’s a gated site off the main road A38 so expect some road noise, although it didn't bother us. Felt very safe knowing no-one could enter without access key.
We loved that dogs are welcome (with clear rules about no dangerous breeds – reassuring).

Lovely spacious pitches.
Bring your games to Play such as Badminton, croquet, boules etc as there is plenty of room.

Toilets, hot shower, laundry and washing up area was spotless!

A peaceful spot with sheep in next field and hens with eggs for sale.

Would happily return for the lovely welcome, general upkeep, cleanliness and ease of booking - thank you Sam and Roger 😊

Power optional grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: A well-equipped site, everything we needed. Spotless toilets and showers throughout the stay. The Owners were friendly and helpful. Really secure site, gated, so no random people wandering onto site. Good size pitches. Close to the motorway, so easy to get to and well located for local attractions.

Disliked: Shame about some road noise.

Power optional grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: Excellent communication from Sam pre arrival, met at the gate and facilities all explained to us. Stayed on hard standing pitch with electric which was level and plenty wide enough. Set in open countryside surrounded by fields and a lovely orchard which was full of different fruits (and we could take what what we wanted!). The facilities were modern and extremely clean. Although this was just a one night stop for us on the way to a d from Cornwall, we would not hesitate to stay here again.

Disliked: Some slight road noise but not intrusive at all

Local attractions

Keen to experience a bit more of that farming life? Take the kids to Cattle Country Farm Park (15 minutes’ drive) for hands-on activities with the lambs, goats, pigs and rabbits plus all sorts of other fun things including miniature golf, a splash pool, a maize maze and a couple of play barns. Meanwhile, if you prefer open spaces and wildlife, head to WWT Slimbridge Wetland Centre (15 minutes) to see what kind of birds you can spot. Around these parts are also several smart rural estates – if you’ve got an eye for a fancy historic house, aim for 12th-century Berkeley Castle or the 19th-century Gothic splendour of Woodchester Mansion (both 20 minutes). Green-fingered guests may instead prefer a wander along the paths of Painswick Rococo Garden (20 minutes). Gloucester (15 minutes) and Cheltenham (20 minutes) are both worth a visit while you’re in the area – and in between the two is the Jet Age Museum (20 minutes), with a fab collection of vintage planes and other aviation memorabilia.
