  • Small family-run campsite on a Ryedale farm in rural North Yorkshire
  • A 40-minute drive to York and 15 to the North York Moors National Park
  • Pop-up pitches on meadows; shops and pubs five minutes’ drive
A stay at Nawton Grange Camping and Caravan Park means you have all the benefits of being surrounded by glorious North Yorkshire countryside to discover, and yet you’re still within striking distance of ancient York (40 minutes’ drive), should you fancy a chance of pace and scenery. A small, family-run campsite on a farm with cattle and horses grazing peacefully in neighbouring fields, Nawton Grange offers camping on level fields surrounded by the forested hills of Ryedale, which takes in the foodie towns of Malton and Pickering and the scenic Howardian Hills. Access to the camping fields is down a driveway off a quiet rural lane, and there is plenty out space around the pitches for kids (and well-behaved dogs) to have a runaround with a ball in safety. If you need to pick up bits for a barbecue back at your tent, you have a massive choice of local produce at Beadlam Grange Farmshop and Tea Room (five minutes’ drive); you can also stroll down to Nawton village (20 minutes’ walk) to a pub offering good food and a takeaway service.

Powered concrete and grass caravan site

Liked: Friendly owner, nice level pitches and plenty of room. Facilities appeared to be okay but didn’t use them as used the caravans.

Disliked: I assume there must be a dog kennels near by because the howling and barking randomly through the day and night is so loud!! Woken up on a number of occasions in the early hours. It’s a shame for the owner if this is nothing to do with them as it’s unfair to affect her business reputation by something out of her control.

Loved the site but the howling hounds totally spoilt it for us.

Powered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked: Nothing

Disliked: Owner rude! poor lighting going to the wash up \showers .. pressure dropped if in the shower by someone using the pot wash or showering.
No notices to tell you where to find the water taps just being told where they are. Told off for having our camp fire goin till 10.30 couldn’t leave it health and safety
The worst thing was the neighbouring farm had Dog hounds barking through the night on several occasions..so if your a light sleeper I wouldn’t bother visiting this site. Was a very last minute booking btw

From the manager: Hi Philip

Going back to the fcamp fire I came across at 10.30 pm and asked that you let yours dye down as we are a family site so our curfew is 10.30
At 11.30 pm I had to come and ask you again I’m sorry you did not like this .

Liked: Field was nice good size pitches

Disliked: No notice of where drinking water points are. Shower pressure dropped if some 1 was using any taps ie washing up or the next cubical ! being told off about having a first night camp fire yes it was 10:30 oops but never told me any rules what time I’m aloud.. the field was virtually empty. Wi-Fi none even tho it had it

From the manager: Hi Philip

thank you for your feed back in reference to your comments i struggled to say anything at check in as you kept interrupting what i was saying . The shower pressure is something we will look into . at 10.30 pm i came and asked you to let the fire dye down then at 11.30 i came ask again as it was still going strong . The wifi is for the seasonal pitches if you had particularly wanted the wifi you could have asked for the password we do have 5G on site so probably not really necessary

many thanks jenny

Liked: The toilets were large and clean, showers were large enough to shower with young children. The hoses in the fields were entertaining for the children.

Disliked: Dog pack barking early morning, doesn't last too long.

Powered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked: Small well looked after fields on a farm. Only 4 other tents there when we arrived so plenty of space. Flat level ground. Facilities were close by and clean with free hot showers. Local produce can be bought if your barbecuing. Ideally located for what we had planed with york half hour away and whitby one hours drive away. Good local pub serving excellent food and several others a short drive away.

Disliked: No fault of the owners but did get disturbed every night my barking and howling hounds from the next field.

Liked: Found this site looked lovely with great reviews ,
Stayed with 3 other tents we are a very large family sisters, husband and kids. Asked to be together which we received what I say was quite rudeness by the owner to each of us, kept saying this is why I don’t take groups explained or tried we are a large family.
very basic site kids had plenty of space to play showers weren’t the best.

Disliked: Had to have a good 25 metres or more to reach the electric points so didn’t have much cable in the tent electric point was to far from the tent.
Found the owner to be rude which has put us off from staying here again, not welcoming at all.

From the manager: Hi Tracy

thank you for your feedback

as it says on pitch up we don't take group bookings.
You requested to be together i said i would put 2 tents together and the other two tents together but at check in you were not happy with this and insisted you wanted to be with another booking. On bank holidays i do a site plan to try and accommodate everyone wanting to be with other bookings so in order to accommodate your wishes i had to change my whole plan whilst other people were checking in which did leave me a little stressed i do hold my hands up to that . Apologies for been stressed .
in order to keep you together it did mean 1 of the tents had a long reach to the electric point

thanks jenny

Local attractions

Outdoor enthusiasts can look forward to fishing (five minutes), walking and cycling in the North York Moors National Park (15 minutes), rock climbing on sandstone crags at Highcliffe Nab (an hour) or sailing at Scaling Dam (40 minutes). Keen gourmets pick up treats in the delis of Malton (25 minutes) – anything from rhubarb-and-custard ice cream to macaroons and locally reared cuts of meat for the barbecue. Other pretty market towns include Helmsley (10 minutes), packed with pubs and indie shops, and Pickering (20 minutes) where you can board a vintage train for chugs across wild moorland to Whitby on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. For a taste of local history, have a wander among the romantic ruins of Rievaulx Abbey, and then see them from above at National Trust - Rievaulx Terrace (both 15 minutes). Castle Howard (20 minutes) has elegant John Vanbrugh-designed rooms fun of priceless furniture to nose around, and of course York (40 minutes) is home to a famous minister, lots of museums and cobbled medieval streets.
