  • Quiet eight-acre site bordering the Cerfin river in Tregroes valley
  • New Quay, Aberporth, Aberaeron and Penbryn Beach all 20 minutes’ drive
  • Remote location in the countryside suited to walkers and cyclists
If you’re the type who likes your holidays somewhere quiet and secluded, there’s a good chance that you might like the sound of Ponty Bargoed in Mid Wales. Bordering the Cerfin river in Tregroes Valley, and just 20 minutes’ drive away from New Quay, this eight-acre site welcomes all, but in particular people who adore walking, cycling and exploring local nature spots. There’s a steep slope at the entrance to the site, which, after prolonged rain, can get quite slippery. Therefore, it's only recommended for hikers, bikers and four-wheel-drive owners under such conditions. The on-site amenities are nicely set up for guests’ convenience, with two large showers and toilets, as well as a chemical disposal unit. Scrub clean any dishes in the washing-up area, which is handily supplied with hot water. There’s plenty to do around Ponty Bargoed, whether it’s driving to beaches within 20 minutes' drive of the site (Aberporth, Aberaeron or Penrbyn, perhaps…) or driving 10 minutes to Llandysul for waffles recommended by the owners and kayaking, canoeing, coasteering, hill walking and other activities organised by the local activity centre. Llandysul is also a convenient place to pick up anything you need from the shops or grab your daily coffee.

Local attractions

The coast is within easy striking distance of Ponty Bargoed. You could start your coastal adventures in New Quay (20 minutes’ drive), where boat trips depart during the season to try and catch a glimpse of the local dolphin population. If you fancy a more laidback day, unwind at the beach before grabbing something to eat from the local eateries (preferably one with a sea view…). Aberporth (20 minutes) has a gorgeous, wide sandy bay too, although it's not as long as Penbryn Beach (20 minutes), a one-mile beach with pretty cliffs and dunes managed by the National Trust. Aberaeron (20 minutes) is yet another coastal spot within 20 minutes’ drive of the site. This one has colourful houses, scenic restaurants and a harbour. Inland activities might centre around Newcastle Emlyn (15 minutes), where there are lots of local shops, cafés, pubs and restaurants, as well as castle ruins. The Bannau Brycheiniog National Park (Brecon Beacons) is not too far away either if you're a keen hiker; one of the nearest hikes is Llyn y Fan Fach (an hour and a half), and it's near The Red Kite Feeding Station (an hour and five minutes) too.
