Guest after guest takes time out of their day to praise the friendly owners in reviews of Fairhaven Camping and Glamping – that’s got to be a great start, surely? But that’s not all this family-run Shropshire site has going for it, as the location’s likely to be a winner too: it’s in the village of Maesbury, just outside Oswestry, with walks and bike rides directly outside the gates. Local strolls might take you to traditional pubs for homemade food, or to the nearby Montgomery canal for waterside walks, rides on a horse-drawn barge or a stopoff at the canal’s central café for a scone smothered in cream. Heading further afield? The speedy A483 is a mile away for easy travels, but if you’re leaving the car behind you can flag down a bus just outside the site for jaunts into Oswestry and Shrewsbury. Time spent on site should be pretty peaceful – the park stretches out over four acres of quiet green space, with plenty of space to spread out, set up a barbecue or light up a campfire. Firepits can be hired here, and there’s firewood for sale too. Amenities include three toilets, two showers, two wash basins, a washing-up area with hot water, drinking water, free phone charging, chemical waste disposal, waste water disposal and use of a fridge and freezer. A chemical toilet and toilet tent are available to hire. One last thing that’s won a fair amount of fans? The chickens and ducks that live on site, waiting to be fed by visiting kids and providing eggs for sale in return.

Liked: Such a welcoming place , from the moment we got there it was made to feel like we had been there before . Carrie was an excellent host from the beginning and catered for everything we needed, was always available to offer advice on the local area or help with issues . Carrie kindly helped us with a rude camper on site and handled the situation very professionally .Pitches were a good size and the showers and toilet block very clean . Hot showers were also very nice after a long days adventures . Would 100% recommend

Liked: Felt lovely and safe here just me and my dog staying at this friendly site.
I liked that it is not big, there are fire pits you can hire, the washroom facilities are decent and included.
I don't normally go for a site where I am given a pitch number as I prefer to chose. But I did this time and asked to be put on the edge if possible. I was pleased that my request was met and I was on the end.
Also it is in a beautiful area near the England / Wales border.
I put no stars for WiFi as I don't believe there was any. That was fine with me as I like to disconnect). (apols if I made a mistake though and there is WiFi).

Liked: Quiet location, good for visiting the British Ironworks. Back to basics site, fire pits allowed

Disliked: Rules given on arrival, 3 pages on how to wash your hands in the bathroom, really. Found the owner a little unaccommodating. Allocated a pitch before arrival, asked to move to be near family, told we couldn't, friendly neighbouring camper offered to move, owner not happy, spoke to us like children. Not the nicest welcome. Cold shower one morning

Liked: Absolutely love this camp/glamping site.... Second time we have been and Carrie remembered us from our last stay and was nice to be welcomed back and also meet their lastest new camp site resident who is adorable 🥰 really great amenities & fresh free range hen/duck eggs which are delicious, always extremely clean and tidy. Great location for walkers and is dog friendly. Our dogs loved their little holibobs. We will be back again soon. 1000% recommended 🫶

Disliked: Only thing was the grass was a little long so was quite wet in the evenings/mornings walking to and from the toilet block.

Liked: Everything very easy, easy checking in with the owner being on hand and very polite and helpful. Sometimes check-ins can be long winded but this was great. Loved our fresh eggs for breakfast. Showers warm and clean, well maintain site. No WIFI which is nice, stops us playing with our phones!

Getting a fix of rural life is pretty simple around here: take your rod over to Weston Pools Fishery (two minutes’ drive) for a day by the water or make friends with farmyard animals at Park Hall The Countryside Experience (10 minutes). If you time your stay right you might also be able to catch an event at the Oswestry & District Agricultural Society showground (10 minutes). Fancy a hit of history with that? Try Whittington Castle (10 minutes), which often stages goings-on like medieval days and ghost tours, or take an inside/outside stroll around Chirk Castle and its gorgeous gardens (20 minutes). If your tastes veer more towards the 21st century, check out the creations at the British Ironwork Centre or check out Cae Glas Park and the eclectic mix of shops in Oswestry (all about five minutes away). Folk who just want to get out for a walk should set their sights on Wat’s Dyke Way (five minutes away), take a waterside wander at The Mere (20 minutes) or nip over the border into Wales to stroll along the shores of Lake Vyrnwy (45 minutes).
