  • Well-maintained family site just over a mile from Tywyn
  • In the Snowdonia National Park half an hour's drive from Dolgellau
  • Access to woodland walks and fishing on the Dysynni river
Calling all walkers, cyclists, birdwatchers, beachgoers… there's a lovely base for all of you at Ynysymaengwyn Caravan and Camping Park, in the grounds of a ruined old manor house in rural Gwynedd, just over a mile from Tywyn and its beach. This is a peaceful spot indeed for a break, as the pitches are surrounded by woodland where you can head out for walks (with your dog by your side if you’ve brought them along for the ride) or follow the orienteering course for a bit more of a challenge. There's also an adventure playground to keep the kids busy, plus access to the Dysynni river at the bottom of the site for anglers to fish for salmon and trout. This is a park that likes to keep things simple and relaxed rather than providing lots of entertainment, but it’s got all the essential facilities sorted including a launderette, an Elsan point and toilets and showers with accessible facilities. The location of the park is at the southern tip of the Snowdonia National Park and very close to the coast, so there’s no shortage of things to do – whether you’d like hardcore hiking or something rather more gentle. And you shouldn’t go hungry either, as Tywyn has a good collection of places to eat including cafés, chip shops, takeaways and restaurants. The town also has a supermarket and bakery if you’d rather sort your own meals back at base or pick up picnic bits.

Liked: Fabulous site, lovely walks through the woods down the river and to the sea. Local town Tywyn (Spar and Co-op available in Tywyn) is a half hour walk on the tarmac footpath that follows the main road.

Power optional grass tent site (maximum 6-berth)

Liked: Fabulous campsite , with beautiful views . Large pitches, fab toilet and shower block, one of the best we have had whilst camping - facilities cleaned regularly throughout the day. Good sized cubicles with hot showers.
Proximity to town (nice 20 min walk), plenty of bars, restaurants and shops and beach.... short drive to waterfalls

Overall a lovely campsite with beautiful walking trails and plenty to do locally . Would definitely recommend and will be back again with our grandson

Disliked: Nothing to dislike,
Some campers complained about the noise from the crows but to be honest you are in the countryside so embrace the noise, it beats police sirens and busy city noise any day.

Local attractions

As well as being your nearest source of food, Tywyn’s a great little seaside town with a sandy beach, miniature golf, pitch and putt and tennis courts. It’s also the starting point for the Talyllyn Railway, which runs into the countryside for a scenic ride – a particularly nice way to do it is to ride to Dolgoch and walk to its waterfall before a cuppa in the tea rooms. Walkers may like to set out on the Wales Coast Path or head inland for a wander along the shores of Tal-y-llyn lake (15 minutes’ drive), scramble up the slopes of Penygader (20 minutes) or head to the walking hub of Dolgellau (half an hour) to explore the trails around there. Mountain bikers, meanwhile, will no doubt want to tackle the trails of Coed-y-Brenin (45 minutes) while birdwatchers learn about the residents of Dyfi Osprey Project (half an hour). Once you’ve spent some time on the sands of Tywyn, head a little further along the coast to explore the dunes of Ynyslas Nature Reserve and see the petrified forest at Borth (both 45 minutes).
