  • Hardstanding pitches at a rural Flintshire site for CAMC members only
  • A 20-minute drive to Llangollen; 45 minutes to north Wales coast
  • Dog-friendly park five minutes' drive from a traditional village pub
Flintshire is a fine place for an outdoor break, with lots of splendid scenery, walking trails and activities to get you out into the fresh air, plus historic attractions and beaches to visit nearby. And here, just on the edge of the Clwydian Range & Dee Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is a fine spot for that Flintshire break. Chapel House Certificated Location, available to Caravan and Motorhome Club members only, is a 1.5-acre touring site with spacious hardstanding pitches where you’ll be able to settle in nicely, perhaps putting up an awning, setting out your outdoor furniture and generally making yourselves at home. Most of the site is level, although it’s worth noting you might need levelling blocks on some of the sloping pitches. Services include a wifi connection, a mains water tap and a chemical toilet disposal point, and there’s a dog-walking area for your four-legged pals to stretch their paws. Getting out and about should be easy from here as the site is just a little way from the A5104 and within easy reach of places like Wrexham, Mold, Ruthin and Llangollen (all within a 20-minute drive). There are plenty of good places nearby for a meal or a drink too, from a smart manor house restaurant to the local pub (five minutes’ drive away in Graianrhyd, with an open fire, bar games, real ales and good grub).

Local attractions

The Clwydian Range & Dee Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is a great place to get out for a walk, perhaps along the woodland trails of Nercwys Forest (15 minutes’ drive) or climbing up to the summit of Moel Famau (20 minutes). For other activities, try the Llandegla mountain bike trails, Llandegla Fishery or Fauxdegla Shooting Ground (all within 10 minutes’ drive). A little further afield, you might also like to take walks from Llangollen (20 minutes) to Castell Dinas Brân or the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, or make your way to Eryri/Snowdonia National Park (40 minutes) for yet more hikes, mountain bike rides and activities like watersports or golf. Llangollen is an outdoor activity hub too, with rafting, canyoning and other adventures on offer. Time to slow things down a bit? Perhaps a stroll around the grounds of Erddig (25 minutes) or Chirk Castle (half an hour) or a visit to Ruthin Gaol Museum (20 minutes) would fit the bill. You could also head up to the north Wales coast for a day on the beach in Rhyl, Prestatyn or Talacre (all about 45 minutes) or visit Chester (half an hour) for the zoo, the races and a wander around the historic city centre.

Liked: We loved this site, and loved Tony as well! Such a peaceful place to relax. I wasn't very well so we didn't go out and about. But Tony was so knowledgeable and passionate about the area, we will definitely be back. The moors are so close as is horseshoe pass. Fully serviced pitches, free WiFi, wonderful wildlife what more can you ask for. And Tony himself was one of life's genuine lovely people. He went above and beyond for us, helping when we were having some problems trying to book the next site. A truly lovely soul. And we must also thank, I hope this is correct, Mark. Another one who helped us immensely. We cannot wait to go back 🙂
Highly recommended. Thanks for having us Tony. X
