These are splendid and serene surrounds in the Allier department, just outside the commune of Saint-Désiré with views of farmland and countryside all around. But do carve out a good chunk of time on site before exploring the region, as the Domaine Bonneblond team have carefully arranged matters so that all ages and tastes can get up to all sorts.
Start off in the saltwater pool for dips and cooling off, before a more adventurous session at the swimming lake – perhaps launching your courageous self into it from the decking area? Kids can burn off remaining energy at the playroom with its dressing-up box, and with a trip to meet the Domaine Bonneblond menagerie: pigs, horses, a donkey, rabbits, chickens, dogs and a cat all live here.
It's all most desirous around here in the evenings too, with a table d'hôte meal every evening. Outdoor adventurers will find all they need at Lac de Sidiailles, about 20 minutes away, where there's canoeing, pedalo boating and swimming in its waters – as well as cable car rides above and treetop adventuring around its shores. Elsewhere in the region, staff can arrange excursions for guests or advise on the best of the plentiful local cycle routes.
From Sidiailles, it's about 21 kilometres to the spectacular old city of Bourges, famed particularly for its 12th-century cathedral that's now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
