Got a bike? Get on it and pedal over to Dalesbridge, a cycle-friendly site between the Yorkshire Dales and the Forest of Bowland. Spacious and family-run, it is within half an hour's drive of all three Yorkshire Three Peaks for hikes up Whernside, Ingleborough and Pen-y-Ghent. First things first, though, head to the on-site shop to collect some local information and a map of the local area; many walking and cycling routes begin directly from the site. There is lockable bike storage on site for your valued two-wheeled vehicles, as well as a cycle wash area so you can hose the mud off after long days up hills and down dales. Half an hour’s drive away is the Gisburn Forest, where mountain bikers of all ages, fitness and nerve can pedal a route to suit. The Dales trails and Bowland bike paths aren't the only thing to look forward to, as Dalesbridge is a peaceful family site with spectacular scenery in all directions. There’s ample room, staff who are happy to help, and most importantly for mountain roamers returning with a thirst, a fully licensed bar (open at certain times). There is also a pizza oven and an on-site shop, where you can stop off for coffee, rolls and pastries at the weekend. Based in Austwick, the site is a 10-minute drive from the historic local market town Settle which has shops and supermarkets. The Settle-Carlisle railway is also a short drive away.

Em va agradar: Great clean site with even pitches and loads of room to pitch.
Plenty of showers and toilet facilties were were modern clean and the showers were lovely and warm.
The shop was great. The pizza amazing.
Nice short walk to Austwick were we walked one afternoon. Then a day trip to Settle and Langrigg by catching the bus in Austwick.

Em va agradar: We arrived on Saturday morning, set up had an icecream for the icecream can that came right into the site and by 5pm we could wander over to a great little bar with a wood fired pizza oven outside, we had pre ordered pizzas for the three of us, we ate inside the bar and it was beautiful - bonus points for having pineapple ON a pepperoni pizza AND the only red available by the glass, just happened to be my fave!!
The staff have been super friendly and helpful, we received a handy map upon check in, were recommended a great pitch in the sunshine - we loved it so much that myself and my daughter decided to stay an extra few days without my other half, something I’ve never felt safe to do in other places! Absolutely brilliant!!

You DO need to pre book your pizzas - so check their website!

Em va agradar: On site shop well stocked for essential and coffee! Onsite pub with a good choice of drinks and Saturday night pizza a must, pre order system working so well.
Pitches were well spread out and pretty level. Great views and location to get around.
Shower, toilet and sick in private rooms which were immaculate!

Em va agradar: Our 2nd visit to Dalesbridge. Great site, good clean facilities, including toilet & shower block, good washing up facilities with hot water. Freezer available for refreezing blocks. Very dog friendly. Love the new addition of the dog walking area.

Itineraris

Dalesbridge campsite is just off the main A65 road between Ingleton and Settle. Do not drive into Austwick. If travelling from the Settle direction the site is past the Austwick sign on the lefthand side of the road: turn into the entrance directly before the Dalesbridge sign. If travelling from Ingleton the site is just past the second turning into the village of Austwick; turn right after the crossroads. Satnav: please note that our entrance is directly off the A65: do not turn up Orcaber Lane!

Starting 10 minutes away, the walk to Ingleton Falls is gentle but rewarding, and even though you’re heading deep down instead of up, the caverns and wild rock formations of Whitescar and Ingleborough caves make for unmissable wanders. For walks with wildlife, make the half-hour trip to Malham Cove, where a pair of nesting peregrine falcons can be spotted in the summer months, alongside resident populations of jackdaws and housemartins. You can climb the massive amphitheatre cliffs of the cove, or follow trails up and around taking in the glacial Malham Tarn and Janet’s Foss waterfall. To see some wildlife at closer quarters, the Settle Falconry Centre (five minutes' drive) has daily displays of flying and feeding and if you feel you’d like to soar through the skies, the Ribble Viaduct section of the Settle-Carlisle Railway makes a fair imitation. If all this outdoor, high altitude stuff has made you peckish, head over to the Wensleydale Creamery (40 minutes) to learn how the famed crumbly cheese is made… and then sample some, but of course.
